I remember a conversation I once had with Denis McLoughlin, it was towards the end of his career and by this stage he was working for D.C. Thomson's Commando comics. Despite the fact that Thomson's were paying him a pittance, he was still expending an insane amoun

And that really is the nub of it, all artistic endeavours are largely irrational, if you had any sense you'd go and pursue a career in banking, accountancy, law well almost any kind of dayjob, but it wouldn't give you the buzz of realizing your own ideas via writing, painting, music whatever and the fact that there's absolutely no guarantees that you'll ever make a living at it is in a perverse way added stimulus.

Thanks for the mention Peter, although my works been going down a 50's British avenue of late, I don't think I've ever seen McLoughlin's work though I might of in the piles of Commando comics I read as a kid in the late 70's. Will be sure to check out his stuff, thanks for making me aware of his stuff.
ReplyDeleteGreat page by the way.
I'll probably post some more stuff by Denis at some point and I'll include one of his Commando pages when I do James.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the compliment too - much appreciated!
